Breast Dissectors
A breast dissector (or breast tissue dissector) is a surgical instrument used to carefully separate, mobilize, and dissect soft tissues in the breast (or adjacent regions) without undue trauma. It is used to create tissue planes, form implant pockets, release adhesions, or free up tissue in reconstructive and cosmetic breast surgery.
The goal is atraumatic dissection—i.e. separating tissues gently to preserve blood supply, minimize bleeding, and reduce damage to surrounding structures.
Breast dissectors are used in procedures such as:
-
Breast augmentation (implant placement)
-
Breast reconstruction (after mastectomy)
-
Breast reduction
-
Breast lift (mastopexy)
-
Pocket formation under the gland or beneath the pectoralis major muscle
-
Submammary, subpectoral, or transaxillary approaches
-
Dissection of flaps, release of fibrous attachments or contractures
